In the latest version of the Quarticon Smart Search engine – version 3.1.30 – we introduced several new features, including the new Rules Dashboard, an intuitive panel for configuring “if-then” search rules.
The new tool additionally allows you to modify search results based on easily defined conditions. This makes it possible to decide which products or product groups should be more visible and which can be hidden, moved lower down, or excluded from specific results.
“If-then” rules without code intervention
Rules Dashboard was designed for quick and convenient configuration. Instead of modifying search queries or involving the development team, users can define a simple relationship:
If a user enters a specific phrase, promote, hide, or change the position of selected products.
These rules can be used, among other things, to:
- promote products included in a promotion,
- highlight bestsellers,
- showcase seasonal products,
- increase the visibility of new collections,
- hide less relevant products,
- direct users to selected categories,
- adapt results to marketing campaigns,
- improve product presentation for specific queries.
As a result, the search engine is not limited solely to automatically matching results. It also gains a layer of business control that makes it possible to take the store’s current priorities into account.
Why are search rules important?
An automated algorithm may be very effective at recognizing the meaning of queries and matching products to them, but it does not always know the business context. It does not know that a specific product is currently part of a campaign, that a particular collection is to be promoted this week, or that a selected brand has strategic significance for the store.
Rules Dashboard makes it possible to combine the algorithm’s operation with the knowledge of the team responsible for the product range, marketing, and sales. Search remains automated, but the company can easily influence the results wherever necessary.
This is particularly useful during sales and promotions, product launches, seasonal campaigns, changes to the product range, temporary marketing initiatives, or when testing different ways of presenting the offer.

Rules Dashboard compared with other solutions
Rules Dashboard follows a popular direction in the development of search engines, in which companies can manually influence the order and visibility of products. Other platforms offer similar functions, but they differ in their level of complexity and configuration methods.
- Algolia provides a similar, intuitive visual interface that allows selected results to be pinned or hidden without coding. It also offers rules based on additional context.
- Elasticsearch provides the greatest flexibility through Query DSL, but creating advanced rules requires technical knowledge.
- Typesense enables simple product promotion and hiding using Curation Rules, offering a less extensive but easy-to-use set of features.
Against this backdrop, Rules Dashboard in Quarticon Smart Search combines ease of use with the ability to quickly adapt results to current business needs, without the need to modify code. With the support of the Quarticon team, it is still possible to create advanced rules in Query Language, similarly to Elasticsearch.
